Slow Travel Is the New Luxury

By Irene D. Lassen, Time To Journey · October 2026

Slow Travel Is the New Luxury

For years, the measure of a great journey was how much it contained: the number of countries, the length of the itinerary, the density of the schedule. Today, the most sophisticated travelers are rewriting that equation. The new luxury is not more. It is time.

What is slow travel?

Slow travel is an approach to travel built on depth rather than speed. Fewer destinations, longer stays, and a deliberate rhythm that leaves room for local life, genuine connection, and rest. It is the difference between seeing a place and actually arriving in it. A journey unhurried instead of a packed and stressful itinerary.

Why now?

It’s my belief the shift reflects a broader change in how we live. After years of constant connectivity and accelerated schedules, high-end travelers are increasingly seeking journeys that restore rather than exhaust. Wellbeing has moved from a spa add-on to the very purpose of travel. At the same time, there is growing awareness that travelling more slowly is also travelling more thoughtfully, with deeper support for local communities, seasonal food, and traditional craft.

For the luxury market, this changes what “exceptional” means. A private jet and a long list of stops matter less than a perfectly paced day, a table with a story, and a moment of real stillness.

Where Time To Journey comes in

For Time To Journey slow travel is not a trend we adopted. It is the foundation behind our vision, the brand and of how we design every journey across the Nordics. In practice, that means building rest, wellbeing and ritual into the itinerary from the very first morning:

  • Morning yoga, to begin the day in stillness rather than urgency.
  • Sea dips in cold, clear water, a Nordic tradition that wakes the body and clears the mind.
  • Sauna sessions, where conversation slows and the day’s pace softens.
  • Long, seasonal meals that celebrate local producers and invite guests to connect and linger.

All our journeys reflect this philosophy and invite travelers to experience the Nordic region through its people, landscapes, flavors, and traditions.

A different kind of itinerary

Our approach is shaped by a background in psychotherapy, life coaching, and yoga. We understand that real transformation and true magic rarely happen in a hurry. It happens in the pauses: the quiet hour after a swim, the shared silence in a sauna or during a long-table dinner.

The most valuable thing we as a bespoke travel company can offer today is not another destination - it’s the gift of time. Time To Arrive, Time To Explore, Time To Linger. Time To Belong.
